We are thrilled to announce that Sherry Davidson was recently welcomed into the Women Business Owners of Northeast Florida (WBO), the area’s premier women’s entrepreneurial organization. Just last month, Sherry also joined the group’s Membership Committee.

WBO has developed a reputation as the voice of local women-owned businesses by influencing decisions that open doors of opportunity for women as well as grooming members for future leadership roles.

An active female entrepreneur in Northeast Florida for many years already, Sherry has joined an esteemed group with whom she shares a great deal of entrepreneurial experiences and insights into the world of business. We recently met with Sherry to learn about the WBO and what she sees as a great organization with a valuable mission.

How has your experience been with WBO so far?  “It has been wonderful.  At the first meeting I was pleasantly surprised to find out how many women in the group I knew from other organizations and networking events I have attended.  I have gotten to know several other wonderful women who were very gracious and made me feel welcome.  It is a very diverse group of people with all types and sizes of businesses.

How does the WBO benefit and encourage business ownership by women?  “The programs are very interesting and beneficial for women business owners.  For example, one meeting was a panel discussion helping women understand how to do business with different government entities.  They discussed doing business with the city, state, and federal governments.

Another program was a panel discussion about using interns in your business.  They had a business owner that uses interns, someone from an intern-providing school, an attorney, and an intern.  I feel like there is a lot I can learn from these activities and other women business owners.  Hopefully, I can encourage or help other women in their businesses.”

What advice would you give to women interested in owning a business?  “Seek help!  The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce has a Small Business Center and a Women’s Business Center with great resources.  There are many issues to understand about owning a business.”

Did you always want to own a business? What made you interested in starting your own business?  “I was a CPA and specialized in taxation.  I was so busy during tax season every year that it was very difficult to ever use a condo we had in Aspen, Colorado, for a ski vacation.  My husband convinced me to join his company, however he was also a CPA and the company already had a CFO.  However, the company did need a real estate broker.  So I got my license, worked in real estate for a year, and then got my Broker’s license.  God has a much better plan for us.  I love owning a business and I love the real estate industry.”

Fellow members of the WBO and other aspiring female entrepreneurs will certainly benefit from Sherry’s insights, and we’re pleased to congratulate her as one of the organization’s newest members!
