Davidson Cares Clay Day: Focus on Take Stock in Children

October 9, 2018

 |

The 3rd Annual Davidson Cares Clay Day is fast approaching and we are thrilled to donate a portion of the proceeds from the event and supporting raffles to Take Stock in Children (TSIC).

Since 1998, TSIC has been under the umbrella of INK! (Investing In Kids), which is the only direct support organization of the St. Johns County School District.

“Local schools benefit immeasurably from INK! and its programs like Take Stock in Children, which helps kids overcome difficult odds and pave the way to college,” said Sherry Davidson, President of Davidson Realty and INK! Board Member.

What is Take Stock in Children?

TSIC is a nonprofit organization working throughout Florida to provide opportunities for a post-secondary education in an effort to break the cycle of poverty for low-income, academically qualified students.

What programs do they offer?

TSIC offers college scholarships, dedicated volunteer mentors and an ongoing system of supportive encouragement. Locally, TSIC selects students in the 7th to 8th grades. These students sign a contract with INK! agreeing to maintain a 2.5 GPA, stay in school and remain drug and crime free.

Enrolled students are assigned a volunteer mentor that they meet with each week to discuss their academic progress and explore college and career options. These dedicated mentors remain with them throughout middle and high school.

Students benefit by receiving a Florida Prepaid College Scholarship, which can be used at any public university, college or vocational/technical school in the state.

How is Take Stock in Children continuing to develop its services for kids?

TSIC has awarded more than 120 scholarships since the program’s launch, and they continue to develop their mentoring program to help more students.

In addition to participating in Clay Day, how can people help Take Stock in Children?

The organization accepts tax-deductible donations (one-time or ongoing) through the INK! website. INK! eagerly encourages individuals andcompanies to donate. Nearly 90% of INK! donations are returned to schools to directly help students!

TSIC also has opportunities for volunteer mentors who are passionate about empowering students to stay in school and achieve their goals. Visit the TSIC websitefor information and to download a mentor application.
