Your credit score is up and you are ready to go! The next step is finding a great Realtor. Since Realtors work on commission it is best practice to find one and stick with them. How would you like it if you spent four weekends in a row driving someone around looking at 20 houses only to find they bought one with another agent? Not fun! Some agents will ask you to sign a Buyers Agreement which simply states that you are working with them and only them.

The best place to start your Realtor search is with friends and family. See if anyone you know has a Realtor they recommend. If not, check out a few local brokerages and interview some agents to find one that fits with your personality. You could start by reading some bios on Realtor.com for agents in your area. You want to look for someone who is experienced and knowledgeable of the market area you are looking in. However, don’t let a new agent scare you, they need to start somewhere and most are eager and willing to go above and beyond!

You may also want to ask the agent what their work hours are, some agents appear to work 24/7 while others keep normal business hours. Also, with technology being such a big part of our lives now, be sure to tell your agent if you prefer phone calls, emails, or text massages. Before you begin working with an agent, make sure you are all on the same page about your expectations. The worst thing is getting started with a Realtor and finding out they weren’t a good fit and having to stick it out, or find a new one.
