Marketing Assistant Matt Burkhart and I had so much fun visiting all four of our neighborhood schools to hand out Davidson Cares’ checks for the awesome educational grant request videos submitted by teachers and PTO members for needs within the schools. Students, parents, teachers, staff and the community were given a month to vote every day for their favorite video grant and the winning grant from each school received $1,000! In addition to that, Pacetti Bay’s anti-bullying efforts earned the school a $500 grant because of the importance of the cause. Congratulations to all!

Matt and I first stopped by Palencia Elementary to surprise Mr. Farnum and Ms. Wardley on their morning news show. The teachers decided to split their winnings in half, so each teacher received $500. Mr. Farnum is using his money to pay off his awesome exercise bike/electricity generator. Matt and I were lucky enough to give it a spin! Ms. Wardley is using her money for new art supplies.

Next, we popped into Wards Creek Elementary to congratulate Ms. Clubb and the entire 5th grade team on their $1,000 grant, which they will use to purchase six Kindle Fires to share amongst the grade for math, science, reading, games and apps!

Pacetti Bay Middle School got quite the surprise when we showed up with two checks for both of their grant submissions! We first got Assistant Principal Ms. Jacobson to help us surprise Ms. Teifer and the anti-bullying club members with a $500 check to help them purchase t-shirts and supplies to make their mission visible to the school, bring projects to the school that combat bullying, and continue to spread the word about Unity Day to all St. Johns County Schools. Next, we swung by Ms. Hoffman’s class to give her the $1,000 check for tablets and iPads!

Lastly, we went by Mill Creek Elementary to go on their morning news show with Principal Ms.Riedl to deliver the $1,000 grant to Ms. Babish’ class for their grant video, “Expedition to Deepest Knowledge”. Ms. Babish will be using her grant money for activities and books. Mill Creek is also the overall winner of total votes between all four schools, so in mid-May they will be receiving 35% of the total money raised!
