Steve Rodriguez treats beachgoing dogs to water at The Hydration Station

If you’ve ever seen a dog at the beach, you know no one has more fun playing in the sand and surf! But amid the fun, they get just as dehydrated as humans. That’s why Davidson Realty agent Steve Rodriguez created The Hydration Station!

Steve, who previously lived in Atlantic Beach, got the idea a while back while enjoying the sunrise on the beach with his dogs. He said, “As an owner, I am always looking out for the welfare of my babies. Staying hydrated is very important for a dog and people at the beach. I saw the need for having fresh water available and decided to make an effort to fill that void.”

Steve started by handing out waters for dogs one day last fall and decided to make it a regular effort. Starting in March of this year, he began setting up twice a month on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. (weather permitting) at local beaches, including Atlantic, Neptune, Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra beaches.

After setting up the Davidson Realty tent, Steve puts out water bowls for the dogs passing by and provides complimentary bottles of water to owners.

Thanks to Steve, plenty of beach dogs are now well hydrated! He plans to operate Hydration Station at various beaches every other Saturday through October.

If you are planning to take your dog to the beach, remember the local rules. At Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach, dogs are only allowed on the beach before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. At Ponte Vedra Beach and Atlantic Beach, there are no time restrictions for dogs on the beach. Dogs on all local beaches must always be on a leash!
