The World Golf Village Relay For Life is coming to Mill Creek Elementary School on Saturday, March 29, at noon! More than 170 participants are expected to take part in the signature fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. Eighteen teams have signed up so far.

Another successful year raising money for the cure! World Golf Village neighbors, businesses, friends and family came out on Saturday to celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer. We had beautiful sunny weather with cool breezes to keep us going around the track over and over again. Davidson agents and staff signed up to walk at all hours from 3 pm to 9 am. The Davidson Companies raised even more money than last year, totaling over $4,000 (including sponsorship money)! Jock Ochiltree, Davidson Agent and cancer survivor, was our highest fundraiser, raising over $1,200 himself!
Jock Ochiltree and Roberta Hicks, our two cancer survivors, proudly took the first lap with all the other survivors to kick off the relay. For me, this is the most powerful part of relay. It really put everything into perspective and shows why you relay in the first place – we WILL find a cure!
People had a blast walking the track, while the DJ kept the music coming. There was a huge bouncy house for the kids and all the tents were stocked with fun for everyone. Teams were selling raffle tickets for amazing gift packages, cake pops, glow sticks, glow-in-the-dark glasses, food, necklaces, and more! (more…)

I can’t believe it came and went so quickly! We had a blast on Davidson’s Island – even though we were walking in 97 degree heat! Jim Davidson, President of Davidson Development, brought enough food for 200 people and Davidson agents and staff came out to walk for a great cause. We raised close to $2,500 this year, so THANK YOU to everyone who supported our team!
Our two cancer survivors – Roberta Hicks and Davidson Agent Jock Ochiltree participated in the Survivor Lap to kick off the race at noon. It was very emotional to see all the survivors walking the first lap together. It gives me goose bumps writing about it now!
Relay for Life is all about the effort to create more birthdays – celebrate, remember, fight back. The American Cancer Society did a wonderful job organizing the event and people were laughing, playing, and having a great time. We were surrounded by energy and fun! They had bands play, a 6 year old Elvis impersonator, a DJ, belly dancers, and a scavenger hunt. Teams were selling everything from cake pops to full meals. There were chance drawings for awesome gift certificates everywhere you looked!
Around 9 pm, the American Cancer Society committee members lined the track with luminarias with names of those that lost their battle with cancer. It was very hard to take that lap as a team, but it gives you hope that one day people will not have to hear those dreadful words “you have cancer” any more.
World Golf Village’s Relay for Life exceeded their financial goal with $45,000 raised and we know next year will be even better! Please enjoy the video of our 18 hour journey at Relay for Life.
